Mass Communication Department to Partner with UCJ Unimaid on Ethical Practice

Gadzama By: Fatima Muhammad Mafi The Head of Mass Communication Department, University of Maiduguri (Unimaid), Dr. Abdulmutalib Ado Abubakar has on 16th October 2023 expressed commitment to support UCJ Unimaid through the provision of resource persons and technical assistance, especially in the realm of ethical journalism.  "I will relay UCJ's requests to the department's board for further consideration." This is a common request that Mrs. Abdulrahman receives.  Recently, she has appeared much happier because she was taught how to produce and use charcoal briquettes using fecal sludge as a means of protecting the environment. "Borno State Environmental Protection Agency (BOSEPA) trained us on how to convert waste or refuse into a useful product such as charcoal briquettes to prevent environmental pollution, flooding, deforestation, desertification, and mitigate climate change."  Millions of lives are at risk due to the urgent threat of climate change, and sub-Saharan African dry areas like Mrs Abdulrahman’s Maiduguri, northeastern Nigeria, are some of the  worst impacted. UCJ Unimaid Chapter Organized a One-Day GBV Advocacy Workshop for Students

  Participants during the session By: Godiya Jacob The Union of Campus Journalists, University of Maiduguri Chapter, with support from the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) has on Thursday, October 12th, 2023 organized a One-Day workshop to educate and empower students in advocating for a GBV-free environment. Themed "Creating a GBV-Free Campus", the workshop aims to improve the discuss surrounding GBV and its prevalence on campus, reintroduce the proposed Anti-sexual Harassment in Tertiary Institution Bill 2019, and work toward influencing new policies to foster change.  The Guest Speaker, Executive Director, Women in New Nigeria and Youth Empowerment Initiative (WINN) Lucy D.
